Sherry Matthews
Sherry Matthews Group tapped Primal Screen to create a series of PSAs for the State of Texas’ SNAP program. Focusing on the health needs of Hispanic SNAP participants (and everyone), the design-driven spots feature a clean, graphic style with animation to match.
Poster Style
Sherry Matthews enlisted us to develop designs for several spots. Given the kind of messaging, we created an illustration style with roots in poster design. Throughout the spots, we avoided outlines and 3/4 views to give every scene a linear, graphic look. Much of the character animation is limited, serving to bring pictures to life.
Production
Our initial run of 17 spots covered everything from avoiding sugar and reading food labels to lacing up your sneaks and taking a walk. Starting out, all animation and editing followed the English voiceover. Since the scenes match the announcer track so closely, we created entirely different cuts for the Spanish versions, sometimes with different scenes.
Effective
As a vital arm of Texas’ healthy eating initiative, the television campaign communicated a wide range of healthy habits that can benefit everyone. The clearest indicator of their effectiveness is that following the first run of 17, Sherry Mathews ordered six more for a total of 23. All graphic design, illustration, storyboarding, animation, music and sound design are by Primal Screen.
